The New York Slimes…again
Sigh.
We won every battle in Vietnam and lost the war due to the New York Times and their moonbat allies in the media and Congress. During this current conflict they have run overwhelmingly negative stories since day one… that is, when they weren’t exposing our battle plans, call signs, and deployments leaked from their contacts deep inside the State Department. I saw a T shirt recently that had an August 6, 1945 dated NYT front page declaring "Atomic Bomb to be dropped on Hiroshima Tomorrow!" They didn’t actually do that in 1945 but they have already shown their willingness to do it today. In fact, one general said we lost some of our brave soldiers because the NYT gave away their plans and position.
For decades, the NYT has run articles on the mentality ill, Post Traumatic Syndrome ridden, haunted Vietnam Vet when anyone who does the research finds out that Vietnam Vets are doing much better than the average American monetarily, socially, and mentally.
Then, the NYT almost stopped writing about the current war. They printed dozens of articles on how the surge would not work and when it DID, indeed, work, they stopped reporting on the war… until today. Today, they printed an article that has been picked up by papers all over the world declaring that well over a hundred of our troops have been found guilty of murdering civilians or each other. That would be a tragedy of mind boggling proportions unless somebody did something crazy… like the math.
http://www.windsofchange.net/archives/the_media_does_it_again.php has done the math for us and some of the comments on his blog sharpened the match considerably. It turns out that if the NYTs numbers are correct (and that is in dispute) that proves that military men and women commit homicide far, far LESS frequently than does the general population of the USA. That’s right — from one half to one twentieth as often as people like you, me, and the guy down at the Quik Lube.
That, of course, is never mentioned in the NYT article. And it won’t be.
If a veteran flips out and kills someone, it will be front page news all over the US and, because of that, on every Jihadist website. Remember Haditha? Charges were dropped on all but two Marines and those have been reduced radically. Motions are in place for those charges to be dropped, too. Anybody heard an apology from Congressman Murtha, the "man" who called our boys cold blooded murderers? Didn’t think so.
I have decided, because of all of this, to become an environmentalist and ask you to join me. Save the trees. Cancel your NYT subscription.

This is sad stuff. However, could you direct me to the research on the current status of Vietnam vets? I would love to take that to class. Thanks.

Good observations! The truth doesn’t always fit the NYT agenda. I just read in a local military newspaper that serves the area around Barksdale Air Force Base that over 4000 people die in auto accidents in California each year. That’s more than all the US servicemen who have died in Iraq in the last 4 years. So auto travel in California may be four times more deadly than the battlefield in Iraq.

If I took the Times, I would drop it. I have little to no respect for any of the national media.

Odgie, I’ll go look that up again. It is referenced in the link I posted in the blog, but I don’t think they listed original sources. I’ll see what I can do tout suite. Wait… here it is: Okay, go to http://www.longwayhome.net/references.htm
and it will direct you to the other sources you need. “Stolen Valor” may be available at your library and is certainly available at your local bookstore and it has tons of details on how well Vietnam Vets are doing. God bless and Semper Fi.
